Transpennine Route Upgrade

The project

The Transpennine route provides important regional commercial benefits and socio-economic passenger flow throughout the North of England. The Transpennine Route Upgrade, when completed, will deliver a high performing, reliable railway between Manchester and York, via Huddersfield and Leeds with:

  • Increased capacity – with new electric trains operating with increased service frequency
  • Faster journey times
  • Better network performance with greater reliability.

SEMP are working in partnership to deliver multidisciplinary engineering services for Network Rail.

What we did

Operating within a highly collaborative framework we have delivered innovative solutions to technically challenging problems for multiple stakeholders.

We have established, championed and embedded Systems Engineering, Requirements Management and Verification & Validation principles and best practice throughout the client and delivery organisations.

Key to our involvement has been validating TRU requirements at all levels and verifying that design meets requirements to ensure high-level outcomes are achieved. Commencing with outcome definition and option selection through to design and construction, the SEMP team continuously verifies the solution is implemented in accordance with all agreed requirements and standards.

Results

To-date, we have transformed the TRU Programme’s requirements baseline and provided valuable V&V insights at every stage to enable timely and informed decision-making.Systems Engineering best practice has been embedded across the entire programme and is frequently held up as a benchmark within Network Rail.

The SEMP Engineering team worked with a ‘can do’ attitude, continually adapting to the Programme challenges with pragmatism.

….I would like to add my personal thanks for your commitment to the TRU programme.
